Application Process

Step 1:  Be able to answer “yes” to the following:

• Have lived in Tulsa County for at least one year
• You (and your spouse) are a legal citizen of the United States
• Meet Tulsa Habitat for Humanity’s income guidelines and credit standards
• Acknowledge and accept the responsibilities of homeownership
• Be willing and able to complete a 500-hour program (a minimum of 25 hours per month) in preparation for constructing your own home with Tulsa Habitat
• Your current living conditions could possibly be declared sub-standard

Step 2: Complete an Eligibility Questionnaire, secure a personal Credit Report and bring them with you to a Habitat Homeownership Program Orientation

If you were able to answer “yes” to each point in Step 1, you must then attend aHomeownership Program Orientation which is held each month at the Tulsa Habitat office.  Here you will learn more about homeownership basics and the Tulsa Habitat Homeownership Program.  If you wish to be screened and considered for the Habitat Program, you must bring the following to this Orientation: (1) Eligibility Questionnaire, and (2) Personal Credit Report. Before you come to the meeting,

This can be printed from this website or picked up at the Habitat office, Monday-Friday, 8:30 to 5:00.  You will also need to bring a personal Credit Report processed within 30 days of the Orientation.  You can obtain FREE Credit Reports on-line.  Finally, call 918-592-4224 x 201 to reserve your spot.  If initial eligibility is determined through the screening, you will then be given a Program Application and invited to an Application Screening meeting.

Step 3: If your initial eligibility was established, you must then attend an Application Screening

Application Screenings happen once a quarter.  Before attending the meeting, you must fill out your application completely and secure all required documents.  You must bring these to the Screening.  After this screening, the process typically is completed within 30 days. Beyond the Screening the process includes (1) an in-home interview with you and your family, (2) review by a Habitat committee, and (3) approval by the Tulsa Habitat Board of Directors.

Step 4: Homeownership Program

Once a family has been approved and accepts an invitation to become part of the program, they begin a journey to complete a 500-hour program.  Families have completed this part of the program in as little as 6 months, but for most it will take 8-14 months, dependent on how diligent a family is about completing hours.  After completing 450 hours, a family will pick a property owned by Habitat and will build their home along with volunteers and licensed contractors.  The size of homes is determined by the size of the family and gender of their children.
