The Women Build program empowers women to build Habitat for Humanity homes, enabling them to
positively impact the lives of children by making homeownership a present reality for
families. By building affordable houses, this provides families a Hand up not a Hand out.
Women Build is not about excluding men; it’s about including women. Women Build
projects provide a comfortable atmosphere for women to acquire construction skills they
might not otherwise have the opportunity to learn. Women build provides an opportunity for
networking while raising empowerment and community spirit.
In 1997, the first Oklahoma Women Build was completed in Tulsa with the help of over 250
women volunteers. Since then, women groups, students, mothers, grandmothers and great-grandmothers
have joined the efforts and formed the Tulsa Lady Builders to complete several more houses.
The Lady Builders have committed to raise funds and build annually to help build a better
Tulsa. We encourage women to step out of their comfort zone and further their home-building
skills while making a difference for the community.
