The Women Build program empowers women to build Habitat for Humanity homes, enabling them to positively impact the lives of children by making homeownership a present reality for families. By building affordable houses, this provides families a Hand up not a Hand out.

Women Build is not about excluding men; it’s about including women. Women Build projects provide a comfortable atmosphere for women to acquire construction skills they might not otherwise have the opportunity to learn. Women build provides an opportunity for networking while raising empowerment and community spirit.

In 1997, the first Oklahoma Women Build was completed in Tulsa with the help of over 250 women volunteers. Since then, women groups, students, mothers, grandmothers and great-grandmothers have joined the efforts and formed the Tulsa Lady Builders to complete several more houses.

The Lady Builders have committed to raise funds and build annually to help build a better Tulsa. We encourage women to step out of their comfort zone and further their home-building skills while making a difference for the community.

Governor Mary Fallin to join Tulsa women in an effort to raise funds for the 11th Tulsa Habitat Women Build!

Yvonne Hovell of Dodge Chrysler Jeep of Tulsa is celebrating 25 years of business in Tulsa this year.  In celebration of this wonderful milestone, Ms. Hovell wanted to do something significant to give back to the community.  Ms. Hovell decided to challenge women in Tulsa, business leaders, community leaders and volunteers to help give a family in Tulsa the opportunity to own a home through Tulsa Habitat for Humanity.  Not just any home though—a home built almost entirely by women!  This will be the 11th women build home in Tulsa.      Governor Mary Fallin, being the first women governor of Oklahoma is a natural fit to be a part of this celebration.  In 1999, Cathy Keating, then First lady of Oklahoma, participated in a Women Build in central Oklahoma. In 2006, Mayor Kathy Taylor, First Lady Kim Henry and Yvonne Hovell all participated in a Tulsa Women Build.  They are coming together again to raise funds for the 11th Tulsa Women Build, to promote volunteering on the Women Build home and to raise awareness of the need for decent, affordable homes for families in our community.
